resuming

CNN, Clube Nacional de Natação, past Thursday, January 14th.

Portugal is back in confinement. A strange one since all schools, from kindergarten to post-graduate university studies are open to in-person teaching… However, I had to give up swimming every day. I had resumed swimming in January after a self imposed break, thinking that things were starting to normalize, but no.

So, I’m back to my long walks… and morning sketches.

a glimpse of the aqueduct

Sometimes you have to be very alert to not miss it.
Praça das Aguas Livres – Ginásio Clube parking entrance.
By the way, the fence here was erased.

eduardo salavisa (1950-2020)

Sad news. Eduardo Salavisa passed away yesterday. He was the main figure of sketchbook art and urban sketching in Portugal. Here he is in Esposende, giving a talk about his favourite subject in 2016. Rest in peace (with some paper, pens and watercolours).

That little cubic tower on the centre left shows the path of the aqueduct, here.

suddenly the aqueduct XII

Arriving in Lisbon, the aqueduct starts to generate big reservoirs. This one was not in the original plan and was built in the 20th century. It is still operating, although the water doesn’t come from the aqueduct. These little temples are the working entrances.
A few years ago, a project was made for a golf training club but the surrounding inhabitants protested. Some balls were thrown still, but the project was cancelled. Huge money losses, then. The club’s main building is still there, ghostly looking to the immaculate lawn.
When I started this sketch, a guy arrived on this car and parked right in front of me, although there were two parking spaces just behind him. He looked at me and proceeded to exit and lock the car… I like to draw cars anyway.
